I was cat-sitting last week and took these two photos. Gingko the grey one was very sulky and wouldn’t come for food a few days.
And Pacino was super sweet, but apparently expressed his displeasure at being left along to his mommy by peeing on her pillow the morning she returned.

Well, that’s cats for you. Very highly opinionated, and what a wakeup. But they’re so cute, I think I’d forgive them pretty quickly. And the bee is cute too. I’ve given bees their closeups several times. My favorite is one sitting on a bright purple flower..
Nothing planned for this weekend, I’m just going to see what takes my interest and go from there. We’re supposed to have the remains of a tropical storm just pass us by off-shore so the weather may not be too cooperative. For all my peeps in the US, enjoy your long weekend.

Good Morning, I’m losing an incredible favorite coworker in a few weeks. She works on the side at farmers markets. As a thank you I decided to knit her a pair of leg warmers. We agree on the pattern and she picked the yarn color and so I cast on this morning. Only to find, three rounds in I had somehow twisted the ring. Grr. At least its only three rounds in, but I have to start over. harumph.
In more sad news – our Academy of Natural Sciences is closing at the end of the month after 198 years. I stopped by yesterday and was reminded how amazing the place is. T-Rex skeleton and excellent interpretation, not to mention a fabulous hands-on experience for the kids. Maybe someone wealthy can step in and help. It’s a shame to close that place.
In happier news, a friend is coming for lunch today. I made ratatouille and its delicious. I’m going to also make more dilly beans, maybe some more watermelon pickles and we’ll see what else. Monday we are having an extra special session for Stitch & Bitch. One of our members knitted a bunch of pigs for a fund raiser for a community garden. They are the cutest things:

Last year she knitted chickens and they were a big hit. We helped stuff them and it was a lot of fun.

I have to submit a correction – Pacino’s ear is actually my fault. 😢 He was hanging around for a long time outside and I decided he needed to be fixed and vaccinated etc. But I wasn’t going to keep him. No shelters would take him, so it had to be a TNR (Trap Neuter Release) and it’s mandatory then that his ear is clipped. Then a year after I did that, he somehow got stuck in the empty house next door. He started crying through the basement doors which open on the sidewalk and I heard him. My tenant and I tried to coax him out after trying to pry the locked doors apart a bit, but he was to scared. After three days, in broad daylight, I unscrewed the plywood on the front door, had a neighbor watch the front so no one would follow me in, called him, and he came immediately. (No one even blinked. Only in West Philly!) My tenant decided to give him a chance with Gingko, and they are now BFFs.
I think it gives Pacino a dashing air. So glad you rescued him!

I wouldn’t as far as cute but I don’t mind bees but wasps are another story.
Bees are vegetarian but wasps are carnivores and I don’t know where they are coming from we haven’t found a nest but lately every time I feed my stray cats outside wasps come and buzz around their heads and get into the bowl to eat the cat food. They are so annoying that sometimes the cats just give up stop eating and leave! 🤬

Happy Caturday…Going to my friend’s birthday dinner (her birthday was actually a couple weeks ago) at Dave & Buster’s later…it’s at the mall and I’m gonna go early and see if I can get different sunglasses frames. Still waiting for the reordered lenses for my regular glasses but by my calculation, thirty days from when I picked them up is today. So hopefully it’s not too late. I was going to go yesterday since we got out of work early but I had a migraine and after driving home I barely made it to my sink before I threw up (and I had been feeling better than I was in the morning!). Then I crawled into bed with an ice pack and slept the rest of the afternoon.

Good morning, all. I would love to cuddle with these purry cuties, but I am actually crazy busy!
We have a meeting with a man in Harrison next week to discuss moving to his property to help out and finally have our own place. He has 25 acres and a few overnight cottages, and I have so many ideas to relay to him.
If that doesn’t work out, my dad has offered to purchase us a condo closer to hubby’s job, and we pay him back when we fix and sell our place. Either way, I am finished with this neighbourhood, and hubby can finally think of semi-retirement.
Hubby got notice that an investment he made with an old job has finally come to maturity, and we will be cashing it out next week. It’s not much, but it’s going to make things a whole lot easier around here.
My upstairs neighbour has nasturtium plants all along the railing. One plant, and one plant only, produced a vine that grew until it reached my one and only tomato plant, and on Friday the two finally met. We are jokingly wondering if my tomato plant will pull her nasturtium plant down here, or if I will wake up one morning next week and discover my tomato plant now resides on her deck. I have an emergency key to her place, and I am seriously tempted to wait till she goes out, and then sneak my plant onto her deck.
My parents finally have a real doctor! My doctor agreed to include them in his practice, for my sake, and now I can begin to relax about their health. We’re hoping that he will be able to give my dad a proper diagnosis, and maybe help him to feel better. My mom is already following his instructions for her.
The cooler weather here is going to make for an awesome Labour Day weekend. Have a great one, everyone.

I found out yesterday that all 3 of the photos that I submitted to the Washington State Fair were accepted for display, AND one of them won first place in the division, one was awarded Judges’ Choice, and one got honorable mention! I won’t be going to the fair until the 17th (the day my employer pays for us to go), so I’ll have to wait a bit to see them displayed.
Today we’re off to pick up hubby’s car, which is in the shop for the second time for the same problem (first time they said they repaired it, but on the way home from the shop it died at the bottom of our road and had to be towed back to them- grrr!!) Hopefully this time they’ve got it fixed for real.
Enjoy the long weekend, for those who have it! I’ve been off work since August 19th, going back on Tuesday, and I think Julius has been enjoying having me home. He’s been so good about coming home when we call him, not begging to go back out after we bring him in for the evening, etc.
Kitties always keep us guessing. Ginkgo and Pacino are very cute, if a little rascally. But they wouldn’t be cats if they didn’t have opinions.
Sounds like you all are celebrating good news, as well as dealing with bad news. I’m so happy for the good stories! And I can add one: George is back up to 7.2 pounds! He seems to get pickier on the weekends, which is weird because I work from home 3 days a week. I don’t know what to think.

My giant hollyhocks are on their last legs now, but quite a few times I’ve walked past them early in the morning and found a couple of bees fast asleep inside the flowers with their furry little ‘tocks sticking out!
I’ve been to Sheffield and back today to see Ian “Palpitine” McDiarmid as King Lear. Amazingly, he’s 82 – two years older than the character! – and was more than equal to the physical and mental demands of the play. As someone who struggles to remember the words of a sonnet it always amazes me that any actors, especially those no longer in the first flush of youth, can remember a leading Shakespeare role.
Regular visitors will remember that last Sunday I visited Pateley Bridge and found the graves of several ancestors. No wonder my 4xgreat grandfather could afford a fairly impressive monument – I’ve found his will online and discovered that he owned six houses in the nearby village of Bewerley! Not bad going for a blacksmith, which I’ve always assumed was a humble trade. I’m going again tomorrow to have a look round Bewerley and also to visit Pateley Bridge’s former church, which is now a ruin but has many tombstones in the old churchyard.
Sad news…just saw this on facebook. Tucker Budzyn has passed away. 🥺

It was this weekend last year that so many of our beloveds died. And now it seems to be happening again.
I still remember that weekend with horror. RIP, sweet Tucker.
