What a scrumptious ginger kitty!
On Wednesday my husband got to have the catheter out and is back to his happy and healthy self, I just hope he gets a break from kidney and bladder stones for a while.
BIL is still in the hospital but they let him go out of the secure ward for a few hours each day, he’ll probably go to a supervise house next week if he keeps getting better. Of course after that there’s the problem of where he’ll live, but one thing at a time.
We have a new stray cat visiting the backyard, she a pretty little calico cat, she came when I called and let me pet her head but when I moved to pet her on the back she swiped at me and ran, I’ll work on her and maybe I can get her inside before winter start 🤞🏻
That’s it for me, I hope everyone has a nice weekend.
Georgiana, I keep sending good thoughts and healing purrs to you and your family. It’s great to hear that people are improving. Good luck with the calico!
Glad there’s positive health news. I’ve had kidney stones so I can relate.
Pretty ginger kitty. Still trying to get motivated this morning. Looks like it’s going to be a lazy weekend with no plans. Good to hear of progress with hubby & BIL. Hope you can get your stray kitty into the house before the cold weather. She sounds like she had a home previously.
Nothing too exciting here this week. I had my 15 year anniversary at work, and they had a reception for all employees having milestones. We even had 2 that had been there for 50 years! But being I work at a university, that’s not too unusual. There was an unusual incident with my bank, somehow an extra almost $9,000 was deposited into my account. Took me most of the morning to see if it might be mine then going to the bank and signing a paper telling them to send back the funds to sender. And no, it wasn’t a scam, it came from a legitimate company but someone must have keyed in a wrong number.
I may try to do some yard work, but depends on how warm it gets today. Two nuisance bushes that I thought were dead and done have sprung back to life so I want to get them back under control. Or there’s thrift shopping, or painting, or finish decorating for Halloween/fall. Sounds like a puttering weekend. Enjoy the weekend everyone!
Too bad you couldn’t keep that $9K. Imagine what you could do . . .
Glad to hear your good news, Georgiana!
Pretty kitty, nice way to start the day.
Fall coloured kitty!
Rainy day here in Duckieville. Cool, but don’t need the furnace yet.
My cold has decided to settle into my lungs for now. Not sure what that means, but at least I no longer have to diaper my nose!
Freaking stupid asinine BIL got put down to two days a week, and needs to be supervised the entire time he’s at work. And then the idiot had the nerve to defy work orders that came directly from admin, so now he gets to meet with admin next week with his DL situation hovering over his head PLUS the defiance write up. I honestly do not know how he manages to function daily with his brain the way it is.
Hubby and I finally gave in and traded our car in for another. 2013 silver Chevrolet Cruze. Not the most imposing of cars, but it will serve us, and takes one of our big worries away, as long as we don’t look at our finances.
Glad to hear that things are a bit better for you, Georgiana.
Flu and Covid shots next Friday.
Have a safe weekend, everyone.
I had the flu and Covid shots this morning. And if that wasn’t exciting enough I put my name down for the shingles and pneumonia shots, but apparently there’s a waiting list!
Shudder! I should probably get those, too.
Yes, you should if they’re right for you. I did shingles a few years back. This was the first year I was eligible for pneumonia, so they did that and flu in my left arm, with COVID in the right. It was tough putting on a tee shirt the next day! But worth it.
I had my flu shot a couple of weeks ago and Covid today. I’ve already had the shots of pneumonia, RSV, and Shingles in past years. So with luck I’m covered.
Yesterday I bought my burial plot. So I guess I’m covered either way.
Oh
My pension starts in just over three months, which will be a huge relief as I’ve been living very frugally on savings since my dad died in December 2022. One of the first things I intend to do is buy a pre-paid cremation (no funeral) plan.
Good for you, Alice Shortcake!
I’m determined not to leave a mess behind me. I don’t want anyone to have to guess what I would have wanted. I quite like my plot. It’s very near where some famous musicians are buried. As real estate investments go, I could have done worse! Next up is the burial plan. And then finalizing the update of my Will and other estate documents.
I’m healthy, folks. I’m not planning to go early. But neither was my baby brother, who died almost three years ago. For that and other reasons, I feel strongly about being prepared.
Happy Caturday, everybody! And a special warm welcome for little Pumpkin Spice up there.
I’m still recovering from last weekend’s big party at work. At least 300 people showed up, maybe more. It was a lot of fun and I think I created some new weavers and spinners at the Try-It tent. Now that we don’t have party stuff going on, I’m focused on merging websites and systems with the other companies owned by our new owner.
Tomorrow, I’m getting the condo measured for new flooring. The cats started trashing the carpet within seconds when we moved in. Now Fred has taken to peeing in certain spots and it’s not a good smell. If I can afford it, I’ll switch to luxury vinyl. We’ll see after the estimators come by. And Fred doesn’t know it yet, but I’ve got some ideas to manage his peepee problem.
My crafts will be more or less on hold this weekend, as I managed to jam both wrists in a fall. It’s a good weekend to sort through wool and weaving books.
Hugs to you all.
Are there any good dogs today?
Allein must be sleeping in! Of course there are good dogs.
I did sleep in! I turned off the alarm and woke up at 12:20 (or that’s when I looked at my phone, at least). I really need to work on going to bed earlier; I’ve been up way too late every night this week. The dogs were good, thanks for posting them. We’re supposed to be getting a nor’easter this weekend. Had a bit of a downpour a little bit ago but it’s not raining now.
Let’s see just how good they were!
Love Finley’s coloring!
YES! They were all great dogs!!!! Thank you!

Gingers in SPAAAAAACE! (You have to be of a certain age to get that Muppets reference.)
Nothing very exciting happened at the Shortcakery this week but I did finally get around to reading “Queen James”, a new biography of King James I and VI. I was amused by this account of an out-of-control banquet held by by James for his brother-in-law and fellow boozehound King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway:
“Christian spoke with a lady dressed as the Queen of Sheba, who accidentally spilled a tray on him when she tripped. Servants rushed forward to wipe up the mess. Rather the worse for wear, King Christian waved them away, asked the lady to dance, slipped in the puddle, landed on his face, and had to be carried to bed with his outfit still sporting the party’s detritus or, as English courtier Sir John Harington put it, with his clothes ‘not a little defiled with the presents of the Queen that had been bestowed on his garments; such as wine, cream, jelly, beverages, cakes, spices’. If you ignore the wine and spices it sounds like a poorly supervised fifth birthday party!
I want to visit your library!
Do you know Dorothy Dunnett’s historical fiction series set in this era? One of the novels is set in that court.
No, but I’ll look into them. Over the past couple of years I seem to have almost lost the habit of reading fiction.
