Can I just go live with the wombats?

    • 6rabbits November 6, 2024 / 8:08 am

I will go with you. Australia should be safe.

The little “bunny roll” at the end is just adorable💙

I’m trying to keep things in perspective, but I am so tired.

Not if someone with dementia hits the wrong button thinking its to get more Diet Coke but thinking good thoughts for us all.

My faith in humanity has suffered a crushing blow. My faith in wombats is undisturbed.

Right now I just feel sad.

        I know!😭

I can’t even. Thank goodness for cute animals and all of you, especially NTMTOM.

  5. Emsthemonster November 6, 2024 / 10:03 am

I’m so sorry 🙁 My cats are sending comforting purrs to all of us.

  6. DEBG November 6, 2024 / 10:25 am

So about that alpaca farm in Canada . . . How soon can our Canadian peeps get us set up?

Thanks to Mike and everybody else for the loving community we’ve got here.

    • Kar November 6, 2024 / 11:10 am

Can we make ice wine? Always wanted to try it but so expensive outside the finger lakes.

      • DEBG November 6, 2024 / 11:18 am

Sure, let’s add it to the list.

My news blackout held up until 6 am. After seeing the news, I told hubby guess it’s time to start packing. Like many of you, I can’t even. How and why people thought he was a good choice, I just don’t understand. Thank goodness for this little corner of sanity in an upside down world. Need all the cute I can get right now. Wombat roll at the end is just what I needed, looks like she was asking for belly rubs. Never knew that bun buns could manage on 3 legs. Looks like Marilyn Bunroe is living her best life. And yeah for Moogan spotting that rattler, hope he finds his forever home soon.

I just want to lay down next to that wombat and put my head on its tummy.
    And cry.
Nothing is going to happen officially until January, right? Time to think.

    • allein 🐾 November 6, 2024 / 11:51 am

      January 20th is Inauguration Day.

  9. tara November 6, 2024 / 11:58 am

Sending my gratitude for all of you and especially Mike for this.

I wasn’t so sure about an Alpaca farm, but if we’re making ice wine too? I’m in.

There’s a wire around my neck, too. Help!

Thank you Mike and everyone here for this community. The thought of moving to another country is looking more and more like a necessity. I’m all in for the trip to Canada with the rest of you. ❤️

    • 6rabbits November 6, 2024 / 2:51 pm

I actually don’t live too far from Detroit, and there is a nice connection to Canada nearby. Couldn’t I just “visit” and then not come back? Canada is nice about that, right?

      • Dana November 6, 2024 / 3:54 pm

        I’m game if you are.

  12. 6rabbits November 6, 2024 / 3:28 pm

There are a lot of bunny videos on Best Friends, and sweet bunny stories!

  13. Maxlover November 6, 2024 / 5:26 pm

Thank you, all. It’s a devastating day. I literally keep having to sit down because I have started to pass out a few times. It is so helpful to have cute critters to look at, not just my own! And funny commentary.

Thank you, Mike, and fellow Cutetropolitans.

    • allein 🐾 November 6, 2024 / 6:38 pm

After mostly keeping it together all day, I cried most of the way home from work. I don’t even know who is happy there or not; I’m sure there are people who got what they wanted and while I have suspicions as to who a few of them might be, I don’t want confirmation because I have to work with them. One of the IT people walked by where I was reading during lunch and asked how I was, I kinda half-smiled and said “I’ve been better” and she nodded and said “same.” I took a walk around my complex when I got home; it didn’t really help.

      • Maxlover November 6, 2024 / 11:29 pm

I haven’t been this devastated (the best word, so I will use it again), since my sister was killed by her abusive boyfriend 25 years ago. My parents have passed since then, and while I love them very much as well, they were in poor health and ready to shuffle off this mortal coil. The last 24 hours feel like a death sentence for the US, the Ukrainians (among others), and our whole planetary ecosphere. I really, really, really hope I am wrong.

Best of luck to you, Allein, and anyone else who could use it, navigating the treacherous waters of interacting with those we feel are complete idiots.

In the meantime, BRING ON THE WOMBATS!

        • 6rabbits November 6, 2024 / 11:44 pm

          I thought about Ukraine also🙁

        • allein 🐾 November 7, 2024 / 8:22 am

I really, really, really hope I am wrong.

Me, too. I’ve seen a lot of dire predictions (including that this this is the end of American democracy and there won’t be another election ever again…last night I saw more than one comment saying there will be no midterms in 2026). While I think some of them are overblown (no, I don’t think we’ll be a full-blown fascist dictatorship come January 20th), I do think he/they can do a lot of damage and I really hope it won’t be as bad as people keep saying. (I fully admit I’m in a bit of a left-wing bubble, media-wise.) But it scares me, too. Last night I was thinking I’m glad I don’t have kids to leave behind in the world to come.

          • allein 🐾 November 7, 2024 / 8:43 am

Also I’m so pissed that he won’t ever be held accountable for his crimes. All those cases are being “wound down” and dismissed. Disgusting.

            • 6rabbits November 7, 2024 / 10:08 am

              This REALLY has me angry!😡

          • 6rabbits November 7, 2024 / 10:07 am

I was thinking I’m glad I’m not teaching anymore, cos I just can’t have a positive outlook. And also glad all my NNs are over 22 years and out of school and have jobs.

I don’t know if this will make anyone smile, but I was in Canadian Tire this morning, and saw a six foot figure of the Grinch. I asked if I could put a name tag on the Grinch with “Trump” on it, since he’s effectively spoiled Christmas for us. The woman laughed evilly, and nudged her coworker, saying they should ask the store manager if they could. The coworker said that the manager is a Trump supporter, and the first woman said “I know. Makes it even more perfect.”

      Do it!

    • Maxlover November 6, 2024 / 11:31 pm

Lucifer, and much of the world, is whispering in your ear right now, saying: “Go ahead! Make my day!”

You will be my hero if you do this, Duckie.

I just found this wonderful resource list on, of all things, a subreddit for a tongue-in-cheek “Satanic metal” band (Ghost). (Full disclosure, I am a HUGE Ghost fan, in part because they are really smart and cool people, their music is really catchy, and the fans are mostly very fun and thoughtful people):

“I dunno if I am the only one affected by fear/stress/overwhelming situation.
But considering my full stress level + added on top stress due to America’s presidental election. (I’m not American but damn am I afraid for the future.)
Here is a gentle reminder to take care of yourself and your stress level to avoid a seizure/blood glucose rise or other stress induced health problem.
It is okay to not consume any news. It is ok to not interact on social media. It is okay to pull back from reality if it means to keep you safe.
Practice skills like yoga, autogenic trainig or whatever else helps you relax. Talk to your doctors and stay in close contact in case of emergency.
Don’t be afraid to seek help. Speak to your insurance provider, try to make a battle plan for the worst to keep your medicine covered.
Fight and adjust. You are valid. You are important.
I’m so sorry America. We all feel with you.

    From today’s A Word A Day email:

    A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
When I despair, I remember that all through history, the way of truth and love has always won. There have been murderers and tyrants, and for a time they can seem invincible. But in the end they always fall. Think of it, always. -Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 Oct 1869-1948)
